Killmonger Challenges the King in BLACK PANTHER International Trailer

Killmonger Challenges the King in BLACK PANTHER International Trailer

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, Chadwick Boseman‘s T’Challa probably believed that his return to Wakanda as its new king was simply a formality. But that is far from the truth in the upcoming Black Panther movie. After the death of T’Challa’s father, the enemies of his family are emboldened, and they are making their move to seize power. First and foremost among them is Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), T’Challa’s most dangerous rival. In the latest international trailer for the film, Killmonger is refreshingly direct as he confronts T’Challa. Killmonger wants nothing less than the throne of Wakanda, and he has the resources and allies to take it.

Killmonger and T’Challa have a long history together in the comics, and Black Panther has rarely scored direct victories over his most hated foe. Killmonger is a physical and mental match for Black Panther, and he’s also bringing some high tech toys of his own to take down T’Challa. And like many of the best villains, Killmonger sees himself as a righteous man, even if his actions are less than heroic.

This trailer also offers a new look at the Vibranium mines hidden beneath Wakanda. In Civil War, we saw a glimpse of Vibranium’s power when bullets simply bounced off Black Panther’s costume. But it can do so much more than that. The reason that Wakanda looks like a sci-fi wonderland is that Vibranium has otherworldly properties that no other metal in the world can match. And it can only be found in Wakanda. That’s why there are always outsiders like Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) who want to exploit it. Klaue has even found a way to weaponize his Vibranium arm, much like his comic book counterpart. Killmonger and Klaue are on the same page regarding their desire to destroy T’Challa. But from there, the only question is this: which one will betray the other first?

We’ll learn who takes the kingdom when Black Panther opens in theaters on February 16, 2018.
