Beyoncé Covered Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones” in Dallas

Ever since Prince passed away several weeks back, musicians and other artists all over the globe have been paying tribute to the Purple One. We’ve seen everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Stevie Wonder to Sir Paul McCartney give us their covers of Prince classics.

Now arguably the biggest name in pop music, Beyoncé, has given her own tribute to Prince, singing a soulful rendition of his song “The Beautiful Ones” on the Dallas, Texas stop of her current Formation World Tour. Despite not being a single or getting radio airplay, that song is one of Prince’s most iconic, due to powerful performance of the song in the movie Purple Rain. It had also become a Prince concert staple ever since. In fact, Prince was going to name his 2017 memoir The Beautiful Ones.

This isn’t the first Prince tribute we’ve seen from Beyoncé; a few weeks back, she paid tribute to Prince during her Tour’s opening night in Miami, leading a singalong to “Purple Rain” and covering the Prince-written Vanity 6 classic “Nasty Girl” –a song which was no doubt an inspiration to Beyoncé’s own 2003 hit “Naughty Girl.”

Beyoncé and Prince performed together at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards back in 2004, where they opened the show with a medley of Prince’s “Purple Rain,” “Baby I’m A Star,” and “Let’s Go Crazy,” together with Beyoncé’s monster hit “Crazy In Love.” It’s still considered one of the most memorable Grammy performances of all time, cementing those two icons together forever in the minds of many fans. It certainly cemented the two together for then-SNL cast members Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen, whose sketch “The Prince Show” – a talk show featuring “Prince and his co-host Beyoncé” became a favorite of early 2000’s SNL.

Thanks to the folks at SPIN, you can now see Beyoncé’s rendition of “The Beautiful Ones” in the video above.
