Beloved ’90s Nicktoons Set to Make Big Screen Movie Comeback

Beloved ’90s Nicktoons Set to Make Big Screen Movie Comeback

Do you find yourself sitting around, missing your favorite cartoons from the ’90s, like Hey ArnoldRugrats, and Ren & Stimpy? How about Angry Beavers, or Rocko’s Modern Life? Yeah, us too. But have no fear, help is on the way!

Paramount is developing a live-action/animation hybrid of classic cartoons, for the silver screen. Nicktoons will be modeled after similar movie mash-ups such as The Lego MovieSpace Jam, and Who Framed Roget Rabbitwhich all featured a style of “self-referential” humor that proved very popular with audiences.

The charge on Nicktoons is being led by Mary Parent, though the production company she owns with Cale Boyter: Disruption Entertainment. Parent proved her success earlier this year when she produced Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, and we can’t wait to see what she does with this new project.

According to The Tracking Board’s report, the plan for this crossover is “not to update any of the characters”; but to reunite audiences with their loved ones, so to speak. And I’ve no doubt it will sprout a whole new generation of cartoon fans at the same time. Can you imagine watching these characters for the first time? I’ve got to say, I’m jealous of those who get to experience that.

There is currently no confirmation from any of the parties, we hasten to point out, but we’d be very stoked if it proved true.

Earlier this week, Nickelodeon announced their plan to revive ’90s cartoons, so with this added news about the Nicktoons movie — cartoon fans everywhere should be getting seriously excited!

Which series would you like to see included in the film? Let us know in the comments below.
