Aston Martin Is Bringing Back James Bond’s Car, Complete with Gadgets!

The Aston Martin DB5 has become synonymous with James Bond ever since Sean Connery got behind the wheel in Goldfinger. Even within the subsequent Bond movies, 007 clearly preferred the Aston Martin to any other car he was supposed to be driving. Considering the lasting mystique of the DB5, Aston Martin will soon make a few new models for the general public, with a secret twist.

Via Ars Technica, Aston Martin has announced that it will build 25 new DB5 cars that will feature may of the gadgets that Bond has enjoyed in the films. That includes the license plate swapping device on the back of the car. However, the biggest catch is that each DB5 will be $3.51 million. That price is definitely not for the faint of heart, but we fully expect some high end collectors to pick them up.

Another drawback: the DB5 isn’t street legal, which means that it can’t be driven around the city on a whim. The DB5 is a close recreation of the car as it was made in the ’60s, and it can’t be certified under modern standards. Plus, the Bond gadgets may not be, shall we say, strictly legal. Still, it’s hard to deny the appeal of the ultimate spy car. It just happens to be far beyond our means.

What do you think about the new recreations of the classic Aston Marin DB5? Which gadgets do you hope to see included in the model? We’ll accept your comments when shaken, not stirred.
