Indie horror fans, rejoice. Director Ti West is returning with a brand new film. And it’s one that looks to top his previous creepy endeavors like The Innkeepers and House of the Devil. This time, he’s looking to crossover the grainy ’70s vibes of Last House on the Left with the adult film world. In fact, his latest A24 Films release X looks to be a mashup of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Boogie Nights based on the trailer.

You can check out the new red band trailer for X and the film’s poster below. And you can also read the official synopsis for X right here:

“In 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas. But then, their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act. The cast soon find themselves in a desperate fight for their lives.” X stars Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, and Martin Henderson. Also in the cast is Brittany Snow, Owen Campbell, Stephen Ure, and Scott Mescudi.” That last actor you might know better by his professional musician name — Kid Cudi.

Despite a rural Texas setting for the story, they actually shot X last year in a remote New Zealand location. It’s not only Texas Chainsaw vibes this trailer is giving us. It also has a similar energy to Hereditary and the Paranormal Activity sequels. (What with the creepy naked senior citizens and all). Those movies still gives us nightmares.

It’s shocking that there hasn’t been a bigger thematic crossover between the horror films of the ’70s and the porn industry. At the time, both genres were barely legal at all. And they outright banned them in many places. And yet, it’s mostly been obvious parodies. There have not been many serious explorations of these two genres together. We fully expect Ti West and A24 to change all that.

X will hit theaters March 18, 2022.
