Jenna Ortega’s turn as Wednesday Addams in the recent series Wednesday is the deadpan perfection we’ve come to know and love from the quirky young family member. Ortega is perfectly cast but thankfully now we know that she does smile and laugh behind the scenes. Netflix shared a short blooper reel from season one of the popular show. As many commenters pointed out, Ortega laughs (and blinks) more in the one minute video below than her character does in all eight episodes of the show. So it turns out that the perfect line delivery is the result of fumbled takes and do-overs. And everyone gets to join in on the dancing.

We don’t see any of Christina Ricci’s Mrs. Thornbill or Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester in these silly outtakes. But we do get Gwendoline Christie as Principal Weems and Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair. Plus some great moments with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as Wednesday’s parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams.

In a true moment of method acting, Ortega also growls at a plane that interrupts a take. Based on the number of plane flyovers mentioned in the bloopers, it seems to be an ongoing interruption. Ortega also says she growls at people to make them go away. How very Wednesday Addams of her. Director Tim Burton also gets some face time in the blooper reel for this delightful series that he helped bring to life.
