A big part of the fun with WandaVision on Disney+ is that we don’t really know what’s going on just yet. Has Wanda Maximoff created an imagined life where she can avoid dealing with the death of Vision? Has someone imprisoned her there against her will? And how is an entire city full of people transforming into a different decade of television every week? We likely won’t have all the answers until the season ends. But we should get some important ones this week—along with some familiar faces from the MCU. A teaser for episode four provides a glimpse at the truth behind WandaVision‘s sitcom world. As well as the people trying to shut it down.
Marvel released a teaser for the next WandaVision that primarily focuses on Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau. She was last seen being violently expelled out of the illusionary Westview by Wanda. In this extended clip, she’s back in modern day clothes; we see her in a flashback to before she ever entered Westview. She’s wearing her S.W.O.R.D. gear and is joined by her colleague, Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo. Viewers will remember the pleasant former FBI and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent from Ant-Man and the Wasp.
In the scene, Monica, first introduced as a child in Captain Marvel, walks up to a seemingly invisible energy field. But unlike Woo, she can see and touch it. This one ability alone could be very revealing. It might be a hint that some of her incredible comic book powers are making their way to the screen.
While we know she will exist inside this bubble soon, this promo also confirms that it has been Woo calling out to Wanda. S.W.O.R.D. doesn’t know why this is happening and who is doing it yet either.
But at least they were smart enough to hire Kat Dennings’ Darcy Lewis, who hasn’t been seen (much to our dismay) since Thor: The Dark World. Her previous work with Dr. Erik Selvig and Jane Foster makes her a great choice to help work with mystical powers and unexplained phenomena, especially when it comes to energy fields.
And it looks as though some innocent peoples’ lives depend on S.W.O.R.D. saving Wanda from this imaginary life. One shot features a board with pictures of the town’s denizens. Most also have their real-life New Jersey driver’s licenses. All except for Agnes. Is that because she’s actually a witch who’s in on the whole charade? And why New Jersey?
It could be because that’s where Wanda went in the original ’80s comics. But it’s also home to the old Camp Lehigh, a military base that has long played an important role in the MCU. With so many other connections to the movies, the choice to head to New Jersey is probably as meaningful as everything else.
Which is why this promo is perfect. Because just like WandaVision, every answer raises more questions.
