Batman villain Mr. Freeze was originally just another bank robber with an ice gun. But thanks to the classic Batman: The Animated Series episode “Heart of Ice,” he got a backstory that was a tragic and heartbreaking take. The animated series reimagines Mr. Freeze as scientist Victor Fries, who adopts a criminal life after his beloved wife Nora suffers a tragic fate. His heart freezes forever.

Now, the untold story of Victor and Nora Fries before those tragic events can be told thanks to a new YA graphic novel from DC called Victor and Nora: A Gotham Love Story. This fresh new take is written by author Lauren Myracle and Artist Isaac Goodhart, who collaborated on the YA Catwoman novel Under the Moon. Set many years before Victor becomes the iconic Batman villain, Victor and Nora is a “heart-wrenching exploration of living life to the fullest, and how far one will go for love.”
