Honestly, we’ve felt excited for the new Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers to drop on Disney+. The trailers for this modern Chip ‘n Dale outing have been wild and weird and downright nostalgic. But honestly, with its surprise “ugly” video character cameo, it exceeded all our expectations.

There were a plethora of characters that could have made an appearance in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. Really, all of Disney was fair game. But last on our list was a haunting cameo by “Ugly Sonic.” That’s right, Ugly Sonic appears in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. For those not in the know, that’s Sonic in his earliest live-action form before fans rioted and the character was taken back to the drawing board. Yes. We mean the version of Sonic that had human teeth.

We thought we’d seen the last of this terrifying live-action Sonic after our earliest glimpses at Sonic the Hedgehog. But alas, Ugly Sonic has returned to fulfill the old internet adage, “I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.”

In Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, we see Sonic twice. First, he runs a booth at a fan convention in Los Angeles, clearly never having made it. That doesn’t stop him from trying to sell “Sexy Ugly Sonic” prints, though. He has also been in a plethora of movies, including what looks like a detective noir, but just hasn’t cut it. He’s definitely no movie star Sonic the Hedgehog.

But it seems like his brush with fame almost happened. Because Ugly Sonic notes, “they’ll like me for who I am… Not like last time when the Internet got one look at my human teeth and burned the place down.” Oops, looks like fans need to take responsibility for this Sonic’s firing. It really makes you think about an alternate universe where cartoon characters wait for a hiring call.

Sonic is voiced by comedian Tim Robinson in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. Poor guy. Maybe he’ll get his big break one day. Ugly Sonic. Uglier Crimes. seems like it has potential… uhm, kind of. Although it may not happen if “Non-Ugly Sonic” has snagged up all the fame. But that’s a story for another movie.
