“ Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are both in it” is enough to make us watch any show or movie. But we’re especially hyped for their upcoming Amazon Prime series Truth Seekers. It’s a return to horror-comedy for the Shaun of the Dead and The World’s End stars. And based on the show’s first full trailer, it will have all the laughs we want, but maybe a few more scares than we’d expect.
“Truth Seekers is a supernatural comedy series about a team of part-time paranormal investigators who team up to uncover and film ghost sightings across the UK, sharing their adventures on an online channel for all to see. However, as they stake out haunted churches, underground bunkers and abandoned hospitals with their array of homemade ghost-detecting gizmos, their supernatural experiences grow more frequent, more terrifying and even deadly, as they begin to uncover a conspiracy that could bring about Armageddon for the entire human race.”
We got our first look at Truth Seekers back in July. That initial teaser focused more on the comedy aspect of the show, which looks just as hysterical as we’d hope from something that Pegg and Frost are responsible for. (In addition to starring, they created and wrote the show.) But this full trailer leans more into the horror aspect of the series. It offers a glimpse at some genuinely creepy ghosts and “malevolent entities” who are far more dangerous than a TV ghost hunter would ever expect to meet.
Of course, that doesn’t mean saving all of humanity won’t involve sipping some urine. The show is still going to be funny.
Sick Note writers Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz wrote for the series. Serafinowicz is also an executive producer with Miles Ketley and series’ director Jim Field Smith. The show stars Samson Kayo as Elton, Emma D’Arcy as Astrid, and Susan Wokoma as Helen. And the always wonderful Malcolm McDowell plays Richard, father to Frost’s veteran supernatural detective Gus. Pegg plays the paranoid Dave, from the comfort of his office. (Though we doubt he’s safe there.)
Truth Seekers comes to Amazon just in time for Halloween, on October 30. We can’t wait, even if it is scarier than we expected.
