We’ve known that The Walking Dead is coming to an end for a long time now. But it is really starting to hit fans who have been on this ride for twelve years. (And if you count the comics, it is even longer.) Sure, we have some spinoffs to keep this world going; however, the magic of seeing characters like Rick, Michonne, Maggie, and Negan come to life cannot be matched. The Walking Dead has always been a huge staple at SDCC. And now it is hitting the sacred Hall H for the very last time. The final Walking Dead SDCC panel came with the last trailer for the series. And it is a bit of a tearjerker.

Most of our main cast came together one more time, including Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Christian Serratos, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Seth Gilliam, Josh McDermitt, Michael James Shaw, Cailey Fleming and Lauren Ridloff. (In case you are wondering, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are busy working on Isle of the Dead.) Scott Gimple, Showrunner and Executive Producer Angela Kang, Executive Producer, Director and Special Effects Makeup Supervisor Greg Nicotero also joined in on the fun.

As we all know, the second part of season eleven ends with a lot of wild stuff going on. Lance and the Commonwealth have taken over Alexandria (well, what’s left of it), Hilltop (also…what’s left of it), and Oceanside. And things aren’t looking too great for the latter with Lance using a coin to decide what to do with its residents. Everyone is defeated, tired, and sad AF.

Typical apocalypse energy. How in the world will all of this end? Well, we get a glimpse at the final round in The Walking Dead‘s season 11C trailer. However, the beginning of the trailer takes us back to some great previous times. Rick at the hospital. A smiling Herschel. Sasha. But we go forward to today’s times and things are dire. Hornsby is out of control and this final war ever is going down. And, we are very afraid for everyone because walkers are climbing now? What?!

Is Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead‘s Final Trailer?

No, Rick Grimes isn’t in the final trailer for The Walking Dead. At least, not outside of the aforementioned flashback. But Judith does mention him and Michonne, saying that her parents wouldn’t want this kind of future for the survivors.

In addition to the trailer, we also got some heartfelt moments from the cast. Melissa McBride a.k.a. Carol reminds us that the show belongs not only to them, but to the fans who have been watching. Norman Reedus did a Norman Reedus and cried. He also reminisced about loving when Carol blew up Terminus and then had a heartfelt reunion with Daryl.

The Walking Dead will return for the final eight episodes on October 2.
