Scott Calvin is returning to our screens. This time, the small screen. Disney has just announced The Santa Clauses, a new limited series for Disney+. And, of course, Tim Allen is returning to play the jolly Saint Nick first ensnared by the titular clause in the 1996 film. But while the trio of Tim Allen Santa Clause films featured Scott reluctantly accepting the role of Santa—and then nearly losing it!—in the upcoming series, he’s getting ready to step down. For good. Here’s what we know about the show so far.

Yep, Scott Calvin is ready to retire. And now he’s looking for his replacement. Here’s the synopsis from Disney:

In the Disney+ series, Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

In addition to starring, Allen is executive producing The Santa Clause series. 30 Rock‘s Jack Burditt is executive producing and serving as showrunner. Kevin Hench, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina also serve as executive producers. The series begins production in March 2022. While it doesn’t say when the series will debut, with production ramping up soon, we definitely see it for Christmas 2023.

Most recently, it was announced that Laura San Giacomo would join The Santa Clause series. Per Deadline, this NCIS and Barry actress will play “a Christmas Witch from Italian folklore who delivered treats to good children on the morning of the epiphany. She now resides in the Wobbly Woods of the North Pole.” Sounds like a very magical addition to the tale.

TVLine also revealed that David Krumholtz will return to the series, reprising his role as Bernard, Santa’s head elf (also known as the the Arch-elf.) In addition, Elizabeth Mitchell will also step back into her role as Carol, better known as Mrs. Claus. Newcomer to the franchise Kal Penn has also joined the cast, per  Deadline, as a game inventor and single dad named Simon Choksi, who visits the North Pole in the upcoming series.

Additionally, Allen’s daughter, Elizabeth Allen-Dick, Austin Kane, Rupali Redd, and Devin Bright have joined the series. Allen-Dick and Kane will play Scott and Carol’s kids, Sandra and Cal. Redd, meanwhile is set to play Grace, the daughter of Penn’s game inventor, while Bright is Noel, Scott’s “right-hand elf.” (It sounds like Noel something of a successor to Bernard, who is hopefully basking in retirement—but not too far from the North Pole.) The Santa Clause films also starred David Krumholtz, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, Eric Lloyd, and Liliana Mumy.

It’s the first new installment in the beloved franchise since 2006. Suffice to say, we’re pretty excited for Tim Allen’s Santa Clause to return.
