Wanna feel old? The teens in the new Netflix series The Baby-Sitter’s Club don’t know how to use a landline. We knew the day would come when pop culture rooted itself so firmly in the now that little things like “calling people on a phone with a cord” would seem positively ancient. But we’re not sure we were fully prepared. But we can’t be mad about it, because the full trailer for The Baby-Sitter’s Club is such a joyful little snippet of a property well deserving of a Gen Z update. It’s like passing the torch to a new generation of young people who will learn to identify not as a Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, or Samantha, but as a Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, Dawn, or Stacey.

Netflix’s new series The Baby-Sitters Club is based on the best-selling, beloved book series that follows the friendship and adventures of Kristy Thomas (Sophie Grace), Mary Anne Spier (Malia Baker), Claudia Kishi (Momona Tamada), Stacey McGill (Shay Rudolph) and Dawn Schafer (Xochitl Gomez) as the middle-schoolers start their babysitting business in the town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut. Rounding out the cast, Alicia Silverstone plays Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, the selfless single mother of Kristy Thomas and love interest of all around good guy Watson Brewer, played by Mark Feuerstein.

Yes, that’s correct: Alicia Silverstone, a.k.a. Cher from Clueless, plays Kristy’s mom! Again with the whole feeling old thing. But we’re overjoyed to see her here, along with all of these bright new faces. The show did a great job of diversifying many of the roles and updating the story for its modern setting. But it did it without sacrificing the things we love most about these characters: That Kristy is a tomboy, that Claudia loves art and junk food, that Dawn is a California hippie, that Stacey is boy-crazy, and that Mary Anne is socially awkward but also gentle and kind.
