The entire MCU schedule has been pushed back because of the coronavirus. Relatively speaking, that’s obviously not a big deal. But it does mean we’re even further away from seeing Thor: Love and Thunder. It’s easily one of our most anticipated upcoming Marvel movies because we expect it to be absolutely bananas. And we’re only more excited for it now. Taika Waititi teased what we can expect from the film during a pseudo livestream of Thor: Ragnarok, where he was virtually joined by Tessa Thompson and Mark Ruffalo. But not everything he said about the fourth Thor film was true.

Because we’re pretty, pretty, pretty sure Tony Stark and Thanos aren’t coming back.

The writer and director hosted a virtual viewing of Thor: Ragnarok on Instagram. Mainly, it involved him doing stuff around the house, like cooking dinner, while the film played in the background. But it did give him a chance to do a fun Q&A with fans and talk with Ragnarok stars Ruffalo and Thompson. That resulted in some actual insight into Love and Thunder. He said the film has gone through four or five drafts, and the script is “so over the top now, in the very best way.”

Waititi said, “It makes Ragnarok seem like a really run of the mill, very safe film,” adding, “It feels like we asked a bunch of ten-year-olds what should be in a movie and just said ‘yes’ to every single thing.”

Give it to us. Give. It. To. Us.

We’d also be skeptical of seeing space sharks if literally anyone else mentioned them, But Waititi said Marvel’s Starsharks will be in the film and we believe him. We can also expect to see more of Korg’s Kronan culture. And while he was coy about Loki or Beta Ray Billy appearing, we’d still bet on Beta Ray being in the film. Possibly played by Christian Bale. Waititi said Silver Surfer will not be in the movie, so that’s one less option for Bale’s secret villain.

When he wasn’t trolling fans or offering actual clues about the movie, he spent some time with Mark Ruffalo.

Celebrities! They’re just like us. Goofy weirdos!

During the stream, Waititi showed off a wonderfully absurd fake script for Love and Thunder that featured the return of Tony Stark thanks to “science.” He also offered actual concept art for Miek (who he said is female and showed in a pencil skirt) and New Asgard. Now with more viking ships.

The only downside to the whole thing? It just made Love and Thunder’s new, later February 18, 2022, release feel that much further away.
