Hear SUPERNATURAL’s Jensen Ackles as Batman in THE LONG HALLOWEEN Trailer

Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles might be done hunting demons, monsters, and other strange beings. But his detective work isn’t over just yet. Next he’s going to be looking for one of Gotham’s most notorious criminals. The former Dean Winchester is trading in his ’67 Impala Baby ( only metaphorically) for the Batmobile. He will voice Bruce Wayne in the animated film Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One. Listen to him play the detective in the trailer:

The Hollywood Reporter states that Ackles is joining yet another superhero project. He will play the Dark Knight in the an adaptation of the popular comic series written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale. The 13-issue limited series ran from 1996 to 1997. As the film’s title reveals, there will be a Part Two. The first will leap into action soon, sometime in spring or summer.

In the comic, Batman, who is still in his early days as Caped Crusader, tracks a killer known as Holiday. The unknown villain murders a new victim on every holiday. During his investigation, Batman comes in contact with some of his most famous foes. And the plot also connects to the story of how Harvey Dent became Two-Face. The comic looks like it could have a major influence on Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

The rest of the cast includes the late Naya Rivera as Catwoman/Selina Kyle; the former Glee star passed away in July after recording her part. Josh Duhamel will voice Harvey Dent. Billy Burke plays James Gordon, with Titus Welliver as Carmine Falcone. David Dastmalchian joins the cast as Calendar Man, who refuses to tell Batman the true identity of Holiday. Troy Baker voices the Joker, with Amy Landecker as Barbara Gordon, Julie Nathanson as Gilda Dent, Jack Quaid as Alberto, Fred Tatasciore as Solomon Grundy, and Alastair Duncan as Alfred.

The movie also marks the return to DC of director Chris Palmer and writer Tim Sheridan. The pair also worked on Superman: Man of Tomorrow.

This is also not the first time Ackles will be lending his voice to a Batman story; in 2010 he played Jason Todd, also known as Red Hood, in Batman: Under the Red Hood. But for an actor with his experience investigating weird cases, he’s much more qualified to play the world’s greatest detective.
