The Star Wars prequels have many issues, but they still gave us some amazing moments. Like Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan’s “Duel of the Fates” showdown with Darth Maul. And the full force of the Jedi Order fighting together on Geonosis. For all its problems, the trilogy’s best sequences can stand with any from the franchise. Including the most emotional one, when Palpatine executed “Order 66.” That infamous plan nearly wiped out the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy. If you (rightfully) find that montage brutal in Revenge of the Sith, you might not be emotionally equipped to watch this supercut. It shows every “Order 66” scene from Star Wars movies, TV shows, and video games. And it’s a rough journey through the galaxy far, far away’s saddest moment.
The YouTube channel Leia’s Lair collected every Star Wars scene showing the fallout of Palpatine’s order. (We first came across the video at Boing Boing.) That includes the many Jedi deaths and near-misses from Revenge of the Sith. The sequence remains as powerful and tragic as ever. We still remember every attack, which saw clone troopers turn on Obi-Wan, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Aayla Secura, Plo Koon, Stass Allie, Yoda, Jedi Younglings, and our favorite “what-if” young Jedi-in-training, Zett Jukassa,
This video also features Jaro Tapal’s brave sacrifice to protect young Cal Kestis in Jedi: Fallen Order. Along with Ahsoka and Maul’s own experiences on The Clone Wars.
And finally the latest addition to the canon, Jedi Depa Billaba giving her own life to save her padawan Caleb Dume on The Bad Batch. That scene carried even more emotional weight for fans. Caleb went on to become the beloved Jedi Kanan Jarrus, one of the heroes of Star Wars Rebels.
The Star Wars prequels might not be perfect. But they did give us “Order 66.” A moment so emotional wrought we can’t stop watching it happen. Even if we hate seeing Jedi die.
