Massive SPOILERS for The Rise of Skywaker! You Have Been Warned!

It’s one of the most crucial scenes in The Rise of Skywalker, when Rey is seemingly defeated in battle by the might of Emperor Palpatine. She then connects to the Force, and hears the disembodied voices of the long dead Jedi Knights giving her strength, and telling her to rise. And now, thanks to The Los Angeles Times, we know who each of those Jedi voices are. Some are well known, and others might only be known to Star Wars die-hards. here’s the complete rundown of the Jedi Masters who made their last stand through Rey.

Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson)
Jedi Master Qui Gon Jinn, as he appears in The Phantom Menace.

Lucasfilm

The first Jedi master we encounter in the saga, from a chronological standpoint. Master Jinn appears in The Phantom Menace as a maverick Jedi who often disagreed with the Jedi Council, especially when it came to training a young slave boy from Tatooine. But his was the first Jedi to discover they could live in within the Force, making his inclusion in this scene crucial.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness)

Lucasfilm

In The Force Awakens, we hear Obi-Wan speak to Rey during her Force vision, telling her “these are your first steps.” There, he was played by both Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness. When we hear Obi-Wan say “these are your last steps” in the voices of Jedi past scene in The Rise of Skywalker, it is once again a vocal performance of a combination of both actors.

Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson)

Lucasfilm

The co-leader of the Jedi Council, the stern Master Windu was always a skeptical one. He never really believed one could retain their identity after death in the Clone Wars series. But it looks like he was proven wrong, as we can hear Sam Jackson’s distinctive voice among the fallen Jedi who help Rey in her most desperate hour.

Yoda (Frank Oz)

Lucasfilm

The 900 year old Jedi Master’s voice is also very clear giving Rey the push she needs to rise up and stand against his old foe, Darth Sidious. There’s no mistaking that backwards talking for anyone else!

Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen)

Lucasfilm

The Chosen One himself can of course be heard as well, goading Rey to “bring back the balance.” This is a reference to the fact that Anakin’s killing of Palpatine in Return of the Jedi fulfilled the Jedi prophecy and brought balance to the Force. The Emperor’s return destroyed that balance, and he urges Rey to continue what he once accomplished.

Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein)

Lucasfilm

One of the biggest fan favorite characters who has never appeared in a live-action Star Wars is Ahsoka Tano, Anakin’s former apprentice. Although her voice here suggests she has passed on since we last saw her on Rebels, it also means she is one with the Force. And together with her comrades once again. Her inclusion helps solidify the animated parts of canon as truly mattering to the saga overall.

Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr.)

Lucasfilm

Another major animated Star Wars Jedi who is heard is is Kanan Jarrus, one of the lead characters of Rebels. We know he died during the events of that series, but hearing his voice (played again by Freddie Prinze Jr.)  among the Jedi dead solidifies his importance to the overall storyline, similar to how Ahsoka’s inclusion does. Interesting to note his apprentice Ezra Bridger is not included…which means that during this time frame, he’s still alive!

Luminara Unduli (Olivia d’Abo)

Lucasfilm

A Jedi Master we see briefly in Attack of the Clones, Master Luminara got much more character depth in The Clone Wars animated series.

Adi Gallia (Angelique Perrin)

Lucasfilm

We only saw Master Gallia in one film, sitting on the Jedi Council in The Phantom Menace. But she featured in several episodes of Clone Wars, where she met her end at the hands of the resurrected Darth Maul and his brother.

Aayla Secura (Jennifer Hale)

Lucasfilm

Another Jedi we only see briefly in the original films. She appears in the arena battle in Episode II, and is then killed by her Clone Troopers in the ambush scene from Revenge of the Sith. But like most other minor Jedi roles in the prequels, she has a greater role in the Clone Wars animated series.
