Ever since Star Wars hit theater screens 45 years ago, fans have loved C-3PO. The golden protocol droid, along with his counterpart R2-D2, wound up becoming the franchise’s perennial mascots. And fans have long wanted a Threepio of their own, because how would a droid who can speak 6 million languages not come in handy? (Even if he is annoying sometimes).
Well, now the folks at Sideshow Collectibles have created a life-size C-3PO for fans to own at last. And yes, he talks. (What’s the point of Threepio if he’s not able to be a Chatty Cathy?) This realistic collectible stands 6’2” tall and 28” wide, situated on a Millennium Falcon base with ship flooring and circuitry details. You can check out several images below.
C-3PO’s signature shining gold exterior is detailed with weathering, a silver right leg, and multicolored wiring in the abdomen. He has articulated arms at the shoulder joints and can rotate to various degrees to change up his posture. Threepio owners can remove the magnetic restraining bolt from his torso as an added detail. (Hopefully, he doesn’t run away).
Threepio comes with a randomized voice track feature, which allows him to say various lines from all nine Skywalker Saga films. We imagine there’s a “Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3,720 to 1!” His eyes glow via a button on the back you can turn on and off. Kind of how Princess Leia did when he got too annoying in the Falcon cockpit in The Empire Strikes Back.
Threepio has appeared in every live-action Star Wars film except for Solo. And even in that film, the man behind the droid, Anthony Daniels, makes an appearance in the Spice Mines of Kessel. The exact place Threepio dreaded going in the opening scenes of A New Hope. It’s almost not Star Wars without him.
