Lucasfilm brought a number of teases to their Studio Showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration on Thursday. Although we were all hoping to learn more about the Ahsoka Disney+ series, we didn’t get to see too much about the show at the panel. That said, we were glad to get official confirmation that Ahsoka will arrive in 2023. (And that Ahsoka’s lekku have been extended for her own series)
The Ahsoka series stars Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, a character who joined the galaxy with Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Dave Filoni co-created the character with George Lucas. She went on to appear in Star Wars Rebels before making her live-action debut in season two of The Mandalorian. And now, she’ll star in her own show.
As we learned in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka is searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn. The wily Chiss seemingly disappeared with the young Force user Ezra Bridger in the Star Wars Rebels finale. The Ahsoka series will see the titular character continue that quest… And we’ll all get to go along with her in 2023.
The Star Wars panel also confirmed to us that the show takes place in the same time period as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming Jon Watts Star Wars series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The panel did not address ongoing rumors that Hayden Christensen would appear in Ahsoka, nor did it address Ewan McGregor’s recent confirmation that Mary Elizabeth Winstead would also star in the series. But we guess we will have to practice Yoda-like patience for now.
Ahsoka began production on May 9 and does not yet have an official release date beyond the 2023 marker. We can’t wait to hear more about the show soon and see one of our favorite characters back in action. Hopefully, we can even get a proper teaser trailer in the not-too-distant future. We’ll keep our fingers crossed hard.
