Have you ever felt so intimidated to start a project or pursue a goal that you feel overwhelmed? Like, you don’t know where to begin so you decide not to begin at all? It’s a common feeling. And it’s a feeling that absolutely comes up when someone considers DM’ing their first roleplaying session. But whether you’re sweating running a Dungeons & Dragons campaign or trying to take the next step forward in life, Amy Vorpahl’s song “I DM” is for you. It’s a confidence anthem that will make you feel like you can do anything.

If you’ve been around these parts for a while, you know Amy Vorpahl. She appeared in a number of Geek & Sundry shows, including Vast and Sagas of Sundry. Vorpahl recently penned a Dungeons & Dragons mystery for the Candlekeep Mysteries collection. If you watch the above video, and you should, you can see a number of Geek & Sundry faves too. The players of Vorpahl’s D&D game include Becca Scott, Gina deVivo, Amy Dallen, and Stefanie Woodburn. In other words, the “I DM” music video stars the dream team.

“I DM” comes from Vorpahl’s latest album, Behold Her Dreams, which supporters successfully backed on Kickstarter. Vorpahl wrote the catchy tune that travels from fear of beginning to imposter’s syndrome to just doing the thing. You’ll mess up. Your plans will undoubtedly go sideways. But take the chance. Learn as the story unfolds. It applies as much to life as it does to wrangling players and running a campaign.

Like Vorpahl says in this modified J.R.R. Tolkien quote, “A wizard arrives just when she means to!” You will find your path when you feel it’s time. But if you never put a foot out the door, you won’t know.

“I DM” and the entire Behold Her Dreams album is available on Bandcamp.
