Obi-Wan Kenobi brought the Jedi Master face-to-face with his old Padawan again. It also showed he had a relationship with Leia Organa long before A New Hope. And the series introduced major new details and characters to the galaxy far, far away. But for everything the Disney+ show revealed about Star Wars, it raised just as many questions. These are the eight biggest we have after Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s finale and what they could mean for the franchise.
1. Did Quinlan Vos Save Grogu From Order 66?
Quinlan Vos not only survived Order 66, during the Empire’s reign he continued to live as a Jedi by serving the Path. The secret underground organization of safe havens throughout the galaxy helped hide Force sensitive individuals, especially children, from Palpatine. Considering another Disney+ series introduced us to a tiny green Padawan who was also present at the Jedi Temple during Order 66, the obvious question is whether Quinlan Vos saved Grogu from certain death? And did The Path then keep Grogu hidden for years?
Despite being a child, Grogu is 50 years old at the start of The Mandalorian. He needed protection even after the fall of the Empire and before Din Djarin found him. Was Quinlan Vos the one who kept the little guy safe all those years?
2. Will Quinlan Vos Appear on Another Disney+ Series?
Whether the legendary Jedi saved Grogu or not, it seems unlikely Obi-Wan Kenobi would mention his fate if Lucasfilm did not have bigger plans for Vos. So while we did not see him on the show, will he eventually appear on a different one? Could he pop up on Andor, which will take place a few years after Obi-Wan Kenobi? Or might we see him on The Mandalorian or Ahsoka?
Disney+’s Star Wars series have already introduced live-action versions of other animated characters, with more on the way. Quinlan Vos could soon make the jump himself, letting us see the brave Jedi at work protecting the galaxy’s most vulnerable people.
3. What Will Happen to Reva After Her Turn From the Dark Side In Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s Finale?
The Grand Inquisitor and Darth Vader left the Third Sister to die on Jabiim. Revenge really does do wonders for the will to live, though. She survived and made her way to Tatooine. If she couldn’t kill Darth Vader she’d get her revenge by killing his son. Only Reva couldn’t bring herself to do it. As she saw Luke lying on the ground she remembered being in the same spot herself with Anakin, both as a child and hours before. Instead of murdering Luke she returned him to his aunt and uncle and threw away her Inquisitor double lightsaber. In that moment she rejected the dark side.
What happened to her after that, though? Did she return to the ways of the Jedi? Go into hiding? Fight the Empire? And what does that mean for Moses Ingram’s future in the franchise? When might we see her reprise her role in Star Wars?
4. Did Roken and The Path Help Create the Rebel Alliance?
The origins of the Rebel Alliance actually predate the creation of the Empire. And direct resistance to Palpatine’s reign began immediately after he named himself Emperor. But the formal creation of the Rebel Alliance didn’t happen until just two years before Luke blew up the first Death Star, after Mon Mothma formally announced her opposition to the Empire. Her speech brought together different rebel cells, those that had stood in opposition on single planets or in single solar systems. But that type of unification doesn’t happen overnight. Nor does a full rebellion launch with a single call to arms. Something must have helped people know they weren’t alone in fighting back long before the Alliance came together.
Was The Path the road that led the Rebels to find one another? It saved Force sensitive people from across the galaxy, using safe havens that connected distant planets and systems. Was that underground safe passage also a road that unified people? Was Roken one of the leaders who launched the Rebel Alliance? Roken did tell Obi-Wan in the show’s finale that his work was just getting started. The Path might have led right to the fall of the Empire.
5. Will Roken, Reva, or Bail Organa Appear on Andor?
Bail Organa was a leader of the Rebel Alliance alongside Mon Mothma. She’ll be a major character on Andor, set a few years before the events of Rogue One, which featured both Mon and Bail. Will Jimmy Smits’ reprise his part on that Disney+ series too? It seems likely, even if he’s not a major character on the show.
What we’re less sure of is whether or not two new characters to the franchise, Roken and Reva, will also return on Andor. It takes place just a few years after Obi-Wan Kenobi. If The Path is still active and Roken is destined to become a leader in the Rebel Alliance, there’s a good chance he’ll be back. And if Reva decided to fight the Empire rather than serve it she too could appear on a show focused on the rising group of freedom fighters.
6. Why Didn’t Obi-Wan Kill Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s Finale?
Obi-Wan could have stopped Darth Vader on Mustafar long ago, but he left Anakin to die rather than kill his Padawan himself. He got another opportunity a decade later, after the Jedi bested the Sith Lord on a desolate planet. So why didn’t Obi-Wan kill Darth Vader when he got a second chance? Especially after he accepted his old friend was truly gone?
While some will surely second guess Obi-Wan’s continued mercy for the evil Vader, his compassion and refusal to take a life was the Jedi code at its best. And letting Vader live eventually led to Palpatine’s demise when Anakin Skywalker returned to save his son.
7. Did Obi-Wan and Leia Ever See Each Other Again After Obi-Wan Kenobi?
Obi-Wan Kenobi forever changed the dynamic between Leia Organa and the Jedi Master. He was not some mysterious figure she reached out to for help in A New Hope. Obi-Wan was her secret friend, as they had forged a lasting relationship a decade earlier when he saved her as a child.
He told her in the show’s finale he’d always be there for her, and he was in A New Hope when she sent a message to “General Kenobi.” But he didn’t see her in that film. So did she ever see him again after their goodbye hug on Obi-Wan Kenobi? Did she require his assistance after the series but before Episode IV? Or was that farewell the last time either of them saw each other? If it was, it was a moving end to what turned out to be one of Star Wars most surprising and meaningful connections.
8. Will Obi-Wan Kenobi Have a Season Two?
Obi-Wan Kenobi seemed destined to be a limited series. That’s certainly how it was written and promoted. It told a self-contained story in six episodes. And for all of the many questions it raised, all of them can be answered via other Star Wars stories.
But could Obi-Wan Kenobi end up getting an unexpected second season after its successful run on Disney+? Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is now saying it could. And Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are both willing to come back for another season.
We know we’re up for Obi-Wan Kenobi season two. Especially because we won’t have to wait until the final scene to get more Qui-Gon Jinn.
