Have you ever wondered what Pokémon would look like as a Looney Tunes cartoon? Well, now you’ll know because the Pokémon company has just released their very first Pokétoon. Via SoraNews 24, this short (called Chase the Beans) stars Scraggy and Mimikyu (also known as Zuruggu and Mimikkyu). It’s an adorable cartoon made in the style of Looney Tunes and other American animation from the 1940s and’ 50s. Watch:

This dialogue-free short follows many old Looney Tunes cartoons’ traditional formats. Right from the title card, we see what looks like the old Warner Bros. rings that you’d often see the likes of Porky Pig or Bugs Bunny appear in. But this time the rings are actually a Pokéball and Pikachu is the one on the title card.

Using gags typical of these kind of cartoons, this four minute short follows the slapstick hijinks of Scraggy and Mimikyu. Scraggy looks for food and ultimately finds himself on a train where he meets Mimikyu. The latter, who resembles Pikachu in raggedy doll form, causes so much chaos that he forces Scraggy off the train. Much to Scraggy’s dismay, however, Mimikyu is right at his heels. The short ends with Mimikyu playfully chasing Scraggy, probably into their next adventure. It’s very much like a Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote sequence.

Pokémon meets Looney Tunes

IGN reports Taku Inoue directed the short with Miyako Makio, Ryousuke Senbo, Shinichi Suzuki, and Shuya Yoshisato doing the animation. Tsutomu Ikeda worked on the backgrounds; Kei Tsuda created the music. Yoshiyuki Koie produced Chase the Beans; he was also the producer for the Pokémon: Twilight Wings animated series.

This is the first Pokétoon to be released by the company but we hope it’s not the last. The short is available on the Pokémon Kids TV YouTube channel.
