The droughtlander is officially almost over. Season five of the beloved series returns to Starz on February 16, and, as the trailer indicates, another war is coming for Outlander. Two decades after the Jacobite Rebellion, the Fraser clan–now settled in America–is about to become embroiled in another rebellion: the American Revolution.

This new season five trailer finds the Frasers at a crossroads. Settled in British North Carolina, Jamie (Sam Heughan) has sworn an oath to the crown, and with an impending war on the horizon, the British have come to collect. However, unlike most gearing up for war, the 18th century Scot is in a unique position in that he has a wife and his daughter who know the outcome of this war. Unfortunately, it doesn’t bode well for the people he’s sworn allegiance to. Considering Jamie’s already going against the crown in at least one way, by not following his orders to kill his anti-British godfather Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix), maybe he’ll figure out a way out of servitude during the war. (Though, history suggests otherwise).

Meanwhile, a trained 20th century doctor, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) struggles with whether to bring modern medicine to the 18th century.  Plus, their daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and her husband Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin) must decide whether to stay in the past or return to the 1970s. While Jamie and Claire were previously unsuccessful in their quest to change history, if they manage to alter the course of the Revolutionary War, what kind of world would Bree and Roger be returning to?

Another war is rapidly approaching, but if Outlander has taught us anything, it’s that alongside Redcoats and rebellion, there’s still plenty of time for romance.

From the Starz official synopsis:

Season Five of Outlander finds the Frasers fighting for their family and the home they have forged on Fraser’s Ridge. Jamie must find a way to defend all that he has created in America, and to protect those who look to him for leadership and protection—while hiding his personal relationship with Murtagh Fitzgibbons, the man whom Governor William Tryon has ordered him to hunt down and kill. With her family together at last, Claire Fraser must use her modern medical knowledge and foresight to prevent them from being ripped apart once again. However, while focusing on protecting others, she risks losing sight of what it means to protect herself. Meanwhile, Brianna Fraser and Roger MacKenzie have been reunited, but the spectre of Stephen Bonnet still haunts them. Roger strives to find his place—as well as Jamie’s respect—in this new and dangerous time. The Frasers must come together, navigating the many perils that they foresee—and those they can’t.

The 12-episode upcoming season follows book five of Diana Gabaldon, The Fiery Cross. The series also stars Maria Doyle Kennedy, Lauren Lyle, César Domboy, Tim Downie, and David Berry. Season six of the beloved series has already been commissioned.

Outlander returns to Starz for season five on February 16.
