Not that many movies nominated for Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards are available to watch right now for free. But Nimona, the Netflix animated fantasy film from directors Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, adapted from ND Stephenson’s beloved webcomic, is now on YouTube entirely for free. The film features the voice talents of Chloë Grace Moretz, Riz Ahmed, and Eugene Lee Yang. It also features Frances Conroy as the Director of the Institute for Elite Knights. Other voice talent includes Beck Bennett, RuPaul, and Pose star Indya Moore. You can watch Nimona in its entirety, thanks to this YouTube link:

In Nimona, the action takes place in a medieval-style fantasy world. We follow the shapeshifting title character (Chloë Grace Moretz) as she attempts to help a knight named Ballister ‘Bal” Boldheart (Riz Ahmed). He finds that he’s in hot water after they accuse him of killing Queen Valerin, and he is soon a fugitive on the run. To help him clear his name, Nimona offers her assistance. The person in charge of the hunt for Bal is actually his boyfriend, fellow knight Ambrosius Goldenloin (Eugene Lee Yang). Needless to say, wackiness and drama ensue.

Nimona has some pretty stiff competition this year at the Oscars. It is going up against films like The Boy and the Heron, Elemental, Robot Dreams, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. They are all competing in the same Best Animated Feature category. There’s not a sloucher in the bunch. But who knows, Nimona might be the dark horse surprise. However, Nimona already won two Annie Awards, so it might just be in the position to snatch the Oscar. If you haven’t caught this film yet because you don’t have a Netflix subscription, now is the perfect time to check it out and experience this delightful adventure.
