Obi-Wan Kenobi is officially here. We’re now two episodes into the series—which thankfully dropped in one fell swoop—and there is a whole lot to unpack. But first, we must address a certain bounty hunting insect in the room. Specifically, the question, “Wait, Is that Flea in Obi-Wan Kenobi?” And yes, the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist is, in fact, rocking out in a galaxy far, far away.
The bassist isn’t quite a stranger to acting, appearing in Baby Driver, Boy Erased, and Toy Story 4. He’s even the voice of the very chaotic Donnie Thornberry in the animated series The Wild Thornberrys. But this marks his first foray into Star Wars. Here’s what to know about the Flea’s role in the Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Flea plays Vect Nokru, a sinister bounty hunter who leads a trio of baddies to Alderaan on a quest to kidnap the 10-year-old Princess Leia Organa. This kidnapping, of course, kickstarts Obi-Wan Kenobi’s journey. After a decade on Tatooine, Ben (née Obi-Wan) is still bereft at all he’s lost and spends his days feeling sad and keeping tabs on Luke. But a pep talk from Bail reminds him it’s time to pull it together and brush off those rusty Force moves. Of course, Vect isn’t the mastermind here. That’s Reva, the Inquisitor dead set on taking down Kenobi. Leia’s just a pawn in her plan. And Vect is just a hired gun looking to make a few sweet credits… even if it means kidnapping a kid.
Vect’s kidnapping endeavors haven’t gone fully to plan, as Obi-Wan rescues Leia on Daiyu and manages to escape. And I’m not super confident we’ll see more of Flea in Part III and beyond. We last left him on Daiyu in the hands of a furious Grand Inquisitor after Reva, the now-former Inquisitor, puts out a bounty on Obi-Wan across the whole planet. And given his screams, Vect is either dead or fairly maimed. But we still don’t know which.
Well Flea in Obi-Wan Kenobi, I hope we haven’t seen the last of you. Regardless, we’ll always have this sweet title card.
