Netflix

Straightforward subscription plan price hikes aren’t the only cost increases hitting Netflix. In addition, if a subscriber is subscribed to a plan without ads, the cost of adding an “extra member” to their plans will increase from $7.99/month to $8.99/month. The cost of adding an extra member to Netflix’s ad-supported plan remains unchanged at $6.99.

For the curious, Netflix’s Standard with Ads plan is currently the only ad-supported plan on Netflix. Netflix’s Standard with No Ads plan and Netflix’s Premium Plan are both ad-free options. But, among other things, support different amounts of devices. These tiers also differ in how many afformentioned “extra members” you can add to your account as part of Netflix’s password-sharing crackdownOpens in a new tab.

The Price Increases Start Coming, and They Don’t Stop Coming

All of these price hikes will kick into effect on January 21 for new customers. Exciting customers will see the changes reflected in the next billing cycle. These cost increases will impact those using Netflix in the U.S., Canada, Portugal, and Argentina.

As usual, Netflix had this to say about these latest price hikes, “As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix.” So the song goes. And yet, ads are more intrusive than ever and shows just keep getting canceled. Hopefully we can call this Netflix’s first AND last price increase of 2025.
