Disney+ Announces New Unscripted Series MUPPETS NOW

Kermit The Frog… unscripted? That’s the premise behind Muppets Now, a new original series for Disney+ that brings Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and more of your favorite Jim Henson characters together for a new generation of mayhem and laughter.

The news came as part of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN’s National #StreamingDay announcement. And to make things even more exciting, Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the gang helped share the news via Twitter, adding their unique takes to the official key art for the series. We’re definitely into Fozzie’s literal “key art” image, but we’re also pretty partial to Gonzo’s addition of chickens…and exploding socks. Although let’s be honest: who can resist Kermit’s bango love?

A revamped Muppet show was first teased at last year’s D23 Expo when Disney+ unveiled their slate of 2020 programming, though little to no details were revealed aside from the fact that the series would be produced by Muppet Studios and celebrity guests would appear. Now, according to a press release, we know that “In the six-episode season, Scooter rushes to make his delivery deadlines and upload the brand-new Muppet series for streaming. They are due now, and he’ll need to navigate whatever obstacles, distractions, and complications the rest of the Muppet gang throws at him.”

Promising “spontaneous lunacy, surprising guest stars and more frogs, pigs, bears (and whatevers) than legally allowed,” it seems that Muppets Now will lean heavily into the “unscripted” part of the series. This will allow the gang to take on crazier and sillier territory than ever before. And since the appeal of the Muppets has always been centered on the gang’s wholesome and genuine fun, we can’t wait to see what antics they come up with.

Muppets Now premieres on Disney+ on July 31.
