Thanks to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, even non-comics fans know that Miles Morales is Spider-Man now. And thanks to Disney+, non-comics readers are aware of the Multiversal concept in the What If…? series. So Marvel’s latest comic under that banner should prove very intriguing  indeed.

In the publisher’s latest What If…? story, Marvel explores what would happen had they injected Miles with the super-soldier serum, instead of his receiving a bite from that pesky radioactive spider. You can read the synopsis for What If… Miles Morales #1 down below, as well as check out a whopping seven amazing variant covers.

What If…? Miles Morales #1, by writer Cody Ziglar and artist Paco Medina

“Friendly Neighborhood… Captain America! What if…Miles Morales had never been bitten by a genetically enhanced spider and became Spider-Man? What if instead…the U.S. government recruited, trained, and granted him incredible powers with the Super-Soldier Serum? What makes Miles a hero no matter the circumstances, no matter the reality?! And are there other superheroes the many Miles of the multiverse might have become instead of Spidey?!”

Judging from the covers, it looks like we have a new, female version of the Falcon as well. Is that another familiar character from the 616 Marvel Universe, but with a new identity? It could be several different heroes under that mask. But, given her prowess with high-tech suits in the regular Marvel Universe, we’re thinking that is RiRi Williams, also known as Ironheart.

Although all the variant covers are pretty spectacular, we can’t resist a good mashup. This is why our favorite is the one that combines Miles Morales’ Spider-Man costume with the Captain America one. It’s likely not worn in the story, but you just know it will make for great cosplay one day.
