Looks like the best Bruce Wayne is heading back into the DC Universe. After a stint in the MCU as the Vulture, The Wrap reports  Michael Keaton might be reprising his role as Batman in the upcoming Flash movie. And we are stoked to report that Warner Bros. have confirmed this to Nerdist.

Michael Keaton to Return as Batman in FLASHPOINT (Report)_1

According to report which has now been picked up by multiple other sites including /Film and THR, Keaton is in talks to return to the cape and cowl in Andy Muschietti’s long-awaited Flash movie. The Wrap reveals that the “plot will introduce general audiences to the idea of the multiverse, one of the core concepts underpinning DC Comics. For the non fanboy set, the multiverse refers to a shifting number of alternate universes that coexist within the larger reality depicted in DC comics.” This won’t be too surprising to anyone who watched the recent Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event on The CW which focused heavily on the concept of the Multiverse and even featured Ezra Miller in a cameo that tied the movie and TV worlds together.

So if this comes to pass then what could Keaton’s return look like in a narrative sense? Well, the obvious angle here is the Flashpoint comics event which imagined a world where Thomas Wayne never died and instead became Batman. That has long been something fans have been keen to see seeing as Jeffery Dean Morgan is the Thomas Wayne in current continuity. It’s likely he could return to play the vicious vigilante, and perhaps the Flash has to find other Batmen to stop him? That could be a smart way to pull Keaton into the role once again.

Batman Beyond is the smart Bat-fan’s bet if  this is a multiple movie proposition. The new Flash movie could be a way to re-introduce Keaton as a retired Batman before spinning him off into his own film. In a dystopian future a retired Batman recruits a young man to take on the mantle. A live-action Batman Beyond film with Keaton reprising his role seems almost too good to be true, but at this point anything is possible. The fact that Keaton is in talks at all is incredibly exciting and we can’t wait to see what happens next!
