Ever wanted a Star Wars film that’s entirely narrated by Werner Herzog? We sure have, and a new trailer for The Mandalorian is probably the closest we’ll ever get as the German auteur’s dulcet tones bless the action-packed teaser.

Herzog who is playing a currently unnamed villain in the Disney+ Star Wars show is known for his esoteric and intimate documentaries that usually feature his deadpan narration. Whoever cut this trailer is clearly a Herzog fan as we get a ponderous voiceover from the director who poses some deep questions and makes some broad statements that let us know a little more about the status quo. “Is the world more peaceful since the revolution? It’s a shame that your people suffered. But bounty hunting is a complicated profession. They said you were coming, they said you were the best in the parsec, would you agree?” Pedro Pascal in the Mandalorian

This trailer features a fair amount of footage that we’ve already seen. But there are some new moments here including some carbonite blocks being mysteriously transported, the Mandalorian beating up a bunch of Stormtroopers, and most interestingly to Star Wars fans, a fight with an alien who we’re like 99% sure is a Trandoshan. The humanoid-reptilian species first appeared in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and have become a firm fan favorite appearing in multiple animated series, comics, and novels. It makes a lot of sense seeing as the most well known Trandoshan, Bossk, mentored the world’s most famous Mandalorian, Boba Fett. What this means for The Mandalorian, we’re yet to find out to truly discover but it’s likely that the Trandoshan is another member of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild seeing as Bossk was a famed Bounty Hunter himself.

We also get some good creature action with a quick shot of two unknown characters riding Dewbacks, plus a very big and good rhino-like beast. He appears to give the Mandalorian a run for his money during a particularly brutal looking fight. We also see the Mandalorian sticking someone in what looks like his very own personal Carbon Freezer, oh how times have changed since the days of Boba Fett. Some other key moments here seem to be the family in the red robes and a young child who the Mandalorian may or may not be tasked with helping; the introduction of an orange chap who looks like he’s probably some kind of sidekick or ally to the warrior, as well as some solid space battle action.

In case you worried the makers of the show were somehow not into memes and ’80s action movies we get a very special moment minutes after we see Carl Weathers for the first time. Gina Carano’s ex-rebel shock trooper, Kara Dune, greets the Mandolorian with a very Predator handshake in a wonderful nod to Weather’s iconic role.

There’s also plenty of pulse rifle action for you fans of the Star Wars Holiday Special out there! Basically it’s looking real cool and we’ll be excited to check it out properly when the show hits the streamer on November 12th.
