Later this year, the first ever live-action series set in the galaxy far, far away, The Mandalorian, will come to Disney+. Today, new details about the show’s cast arrived at this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Chicago.

THE MANDALORIAN Reveals New Details and Characters_1

This fall the next big streaming service in home entertainment, Disney+, will debut with a bang: Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian starring Pedro Pascal in the titular role. Set three years after Return of the Jedi, the show is the first live-action series ever from Lucasfilm. Favreau and Dave Filoni welcomed Pascal and his co-stars Gina Carano and Carl Weathers at Star Wars Celebration to share new details about the show and its characters.

Pascal said his character is a “bounty hunter and a warrior,” who is a “mysterious lone gunfighter” with a “questionable moral character.” He also said that “he’s a badass” inspired in part by Clint Eastwood, specifically the Man with No Name.

Carano is playing Kara Doon (Ca’ra D’uun? Kaara Doone?), an ex-Rebel shock trooper who doesn’t know what to do with herself after the Empire falls, so she becomes a mercenary. Her stunt double evidently didn’t have a lot to do since Carano is so adept at stunt work herself.

Carl Weathers (yes, Apollo Creed himself) will play Greef Carga (sp?), who runs a group/guild of bounty hunters. He said his character is “looking for someone to go after a valuable product for a client,” and he turns to the Mandalorian to get the job done.

We also got some behind-the-scenes footage of “Mando’s” ship, the Razor Crest.

Favreau and Filoni said the show will fill in some of the details of the planet Mandalore’s history. At one point they didn’t have enough Stromtroopers for particular scenes, so they called in the actual 501st Legion. Only they didn’t tell the fan group what they were showing up for, giving them the surprise of a lifetime.

While we expected the show – whose first season will have eight episodes (made with a whopping $100 million budget) and will utilize the same advanced CGI, motion-capture technology Favreau utilized on his live-action The Jungle Book – to debut sometime in 2020, earlier this week Disney said the very first episode will debut when Disney+ launches this fall, on November 12.

Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer for the rest of the season.
