Stephen Colbert Is Hosting a LORD OF THE RINGS Cast Reunion

The Fellowship of the Ring film premiered 20 years ago in 2001. The movie kicked off the epic Peter Jackson-directed trilogy that brought J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth to the screen in an awesome fashion. And to celebrate the entire The Lord of the Rings trilogy and support local cinemas, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is doing something special. They’ve put together a massive Lord of the Rings cast reunion hosted by Middle-earth mega-fan Stephen Colbert. Cast members and Peter Jackson will come together to chat for three consecutive weeks beginning March 25.

“There’s some good in this world, Mr.Frodo.”

If you recall, Josh Gad assembled several cast members for a reunion in May 2020 as part of his Reunited Apart series. It was an absolute treat to see so many familiar faces back together, even virtually. We have no doubt this reunion will be just as special with so many cast members joining. Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Billy Boyd, Peter Jackson, Ian McKellen, Dominic Monaghan, Viggo Mortensen, Andy Serkis, Liv Tyler, and Elijah Wood will join Colbert in conversation. You know it’s going to be entertaining and charming. Plus, Colbert is such a huge nerd about The Lord of the Rings and all things Tolkien, that he will absolutely bring it.

Here’s how the reunion supports theaters: the content will be available initially exclusively to theatrical screenings of the new 4K remastering of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is making these Q&A presentations available for all theaters around the globe entirely for free. So if you want to check out the Q&A soon, visit your local cinema safely. Otherwise the reunion conversations will be available online at a later, unspecified date.

The 4K remaster release dates are as follows:
The Fellowship of the Ring – March 25
The Two Towers – April 1
Return of the King – April 8

And fans can participate in the reunion, too. Folks can submit questions for the assembled panel through March 10 using #LOTR20 on Twitter. Get creative. For example: don’t bring up Viggo Mortensen’s broken toe moment in The Two Towers. We believe in you.
