It’s time to go on a magical mystery tour… through Minecraft‘s world, but this time in live-action cinematic form. Hoo-boy. We’re in for quite the wild ride. It’s a blocky world and we’re all just living in it, that’s for sure. The Minecraft live-action movie seemed like a fever dream as it suddenly appeared on the scene with its star-studded cast and massive franchise world to pull from. Just what kind of story could a Minecraft live-action movie tell? Well, if this trailer is any indication A Minecraft Movie will tell an incredibly fun story, one that’s a visual delight.
You can check out the first trailer for A Minecraft Movie below.
Jack Black and Jason Momoa, of course, lead this spectacular cast. Additionally, A Minecraft Movie stars Emma Myers (“Wednesday”), Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks (“The Color Purple”), Sebastian Eugene Hansen (“Just Mercy, “Lisey’s Story”), and Jennifer Coolidge.
To help us make sense of the trailer, A Minecraft Movie‘s synopsis shares more about the story we can expect from the film. It notes of this game-inspired movie:
Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
Piglins, Zombies, and Steve, oh my! This honestly feels like the perfect cast to tackle such a wacky offering. And honestly, weaving an original story in with Minecraft‘s iconic cubic background was exactly the right way to go for a live-action movie take on the world. While, of course, acknowledging legacy facets of Minecraft like Steve, played by Jack Black, who we meet in the movie trailer. Steve, of course, is one of Minecraft‘s first official player characters. However, to date, he has no official backstory. We wonder if A Minecraft movie will give him one. either way, we bet this movie-game combo will end up going very Meta, very quickly, and we can’t wait to hop onto the ride and into the world.
