The events of Avengers: Infinity War didn’t exactly leave a ton of heroes or even supporting characters from the MCU for Endgame. But what if one classic Marvel character survived “the Snappening?” A classic Marvel character we haven’t seen yet: the original loudmouth of the Marvel Universe, Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson, as played by J.K. Simmons.

Simmons appeared as a guest on a recent segment of the Lights Camera Barstool podcast. He who will be forever beloved by comic book fans for his spot-on portrayal of Peter Parker’s boss J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy showed us just how the blowhard newspaper man would have led a newsroom meeting in the wake of Thanos’ decimation. We’re kind of living for it and would pay cash to see a scene like this in Avengers: Endgame.

For anyone who had ever read an issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, Simmons’ version of the Daily Bugle’s Editor-In-Chief felt like seeing a Steve Ditko illustration come to life. Jameson hasn’t appeared in the MCU yet, but who could do better? Our vote is to cast Simmons for whenever Jameson does appear.

Just look at this podcast appearance as an unusual audition. Sure, it’s weird to have one actor play the same version of a character in very different continuities, but it’s not unprecedented. Dame Judi Dench played M in the Pierce Brosnan James Bond movies, and then played another version of the same character for the Daniel Craig starring 007 movies. It’s been done…in a way. We can think of way worse things than having Simmons back and shouting about Spider-Man pictures as good old J. Jonah Jameson.
