Dean Winchester’s 1967 Chevrolet Impala is a major character in Supernatural. Known as “Baby,” the car has carried the Winchesters through countless encounters with demons, ghosts, angels, you name it. They’ve put thousands of miles on the muscle car as they’ve driven around the United States saving people and hunting things. The vehicle even has an episode named after it in season 11. And appropriately, once Supernatural ends this fall, Jensen Ackles—the actor who plays Dean Winchester—will take the Impala home.

Ackles shared the news with Digital Spy and other outlets (via ComicBook.com). He said, “As far as taking something on the final day, I will definitely be taking something that I’ve had my eye on since day one of Supernatural. But it’s okay, I’m not stealing it. I got permission. I begged and begged and pleaded for years, but I finally got it this year. They’re going to let me drive home the Impala.”

Now that’s a pretty impressive prop to keep.

Besides being the Winchester brothers’ primary mode of transportation, the Impala carries a pile of important tools. The trunk, marked with a sign of protection, holds weapons and supplies the Winchesters need to eliminate the usual big bads. They have plenty of salt and iron to keep ghosts at bay, holy water, those kind of things. Plus John Winchester passed the car onto Dean. It’s special on multiple levels. Baby’s been a loyal companion.

And Ackles and Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) have spent hours in the car over 15 seasons of filming Supernatural. It’s nice to think of Baby heading home with Ackles and having a nice retirement. You could say Baby is laying its weary head to rest.
