Sometimes a single person’s involvement with a project is enough to make us watch. That’s definitely true when that person has made films like Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water. But we’re still glad to have a sneak peak at one of our favorite director’s next movie, a stop-motion animated retelling of a beloved tale. Because the latest trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio at Netflix is as visually beautiful as it is moving.

Not only did del Toro co-direct with stop-motion veteran Mark Gustafson ( Fantastic Mr. Fox), he also co-wrote the film with Patrick McHale (Adventure Time). If this fantastic trailer is any indication, those three made for an incredible team. Not only is the animation for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio stunning, the trailer and story it’s absolutely going to destroy us in the best way.

Here’s the official synopsis from Netflix:

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro reinvents Carlo Collodi’s classic tale of the wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto. This whimsical, stop-motion film directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson follows the mischievous and disobedient adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world.

The film also features a great cast. Ewan McGregor stars as Cricket, David Bradley voices Geppetto, and Gregory Mann plays the wooden boy Pinocchio. They’re joined by Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton.

The film is coming to Netflix in December; however, you’ll have a chance to see it early on the big screen. It comes to select theaters in November. Like many of you, we’ll be trying to see this as quickly as possible. We always do when it comes to Guillermo del Toro. But with a trailer this good how could we not?
