The Munsters reboot film from director Rob Zombie just received an infusion of spooky royalty. Actress Cassandra Peterson, better known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, has officially joined the film. Via IGN, we learned that Zombie posted this newest casting announcement on his  Instagram page, along with a first-look photo of Cassandra in character. Peterson is playing real estate agent Barbara Carr in the film.

This buttoned-down look is a complete 180 from her classic Elvira costume. In fact, she looks like one of the angry small-town ladies who wanted to burn Elvira at the stake in her camp classic 1980s film, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark. You can read Rob Zombie’s announcement below:

Straight from the set of The Munsters is your first look at Barbara Carr, the #1 real estate agent in all of Mockingbird Heights. Barbara is played by none other the Cassandra Peterson. Yes, the Mistress of the Dark has joined the cast of The Munsters.

Although we primarily know her for playing the “Hostess with the Mostest,” we’ve seen Cassandra Peterson play other parts over the years. She portrayed a loving mom in All About Evil. Another time she appeared as a rough and tumble biker in Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. This was the only time she shared the screen with Paul Reubens, who is one of her real life best friends.

Joining Cassandra in The Munsters is Jeff Daniel Phillips as family patriarch Herman Munster. Rob Zombie’s wife and frequent collaborator Sheri Moon Zombie plays his wife, Lily Munster. Daniel Roebuck plays the vampiric Grandpa. Rounding out the cast is Richard Brake as mad scientist Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang. Jorge Garcia, Sylvester McCoy, and Catherine Schell have roles, too. We still don’t know who is playing Eddie Munster and cousin Marilyn, although they are appearing in the film. Here’s hoping that Zombie creates something as timeless and wonderful as the ’90s Addams Family films.

The Munsters arrives in theaters and on Peacock in the latter half of 2022.
