Don’t Worry Darling is the title of the upcoming psychological thriller directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. But it also sounds like a refrain the movie will echo a lot. “Don’t worry, darling.” We can just hear every man in Don’t Worry Darling‘s trailer echoing the words repeatedly. It’s a don’t ask any questions, everything will be “fine” kind of world.

The description for Don’t Worry Darling‘s trailer actually fills in a lot about the movie. We most of the information from the footage itself, but it never hurts to flesh it out in words. Especially when it comes to psychological thrillers like this one, so little is what it seems.

Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Styles) are lucky to be living in the idealized community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. The 1950’s societal optimism espoused by their CEO, Frank (Pine)—equal parts corporate visionary and motivational life coach—anchors every aspect of daily life in the tight-knit desert utopia.

While the husbands spend every day inside the Victory Project Headquarters, working on the “development of progressive materials,” their wives—including Frank’s elegant partner, Shelley (Chan)—get to spend their time enjoying the beauty, luxury and debauchery of their community. Life is perfect, with every resident’s needs met by the company. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause.

But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory, and why. Just how much is Alice willing to lose to expose what’s really going on in this paradise?

And a second trailer brings even more of Don’t Worry Darling‘s world to life, offering a bigger serving of unnerving creepiness than the first. Together, these Don’t Worry Darling trailers paint an incredibly evocative image.

Chris Pine and Gemma Chan also star in the film. Nick Kroll, Sydney Chandler, Kate Berlant, Asif Ali, Douglas Smith, Timothy Simons, and Ari’el Stachel round out the cast.

There’s just something so incredibly eerie that comes from terror taking place in broad daylight. The juxtaposition of the idyllic community and the clearly nefarious forces at work gives us the shivers. Not even sunrise can save Florence Pugh’s Alice from the terror that follows her. The perfection of her life is something she cannot escape. Just the trailers for Don’t Worry Darling fill us with creeping dread, so we can’t imagine how the movie will go.

Warner Bros. Pictures

In some ways, Pugh and Pine take center stage in the trailers for Don’t Worry Darling. It looks like Pugh’s Alice can’t resist questioning the goings-on around her. And Pine’s Frank, a cloying charming figure, likely won’t take too kindly to that. Even in just the trailers, we can tell these two performances will knock it out of the park. Interestingly, we don’t see too much of Styles’ Jack yet. But we have to have something to look forward to.

According to its trailers, Don’t Worry Darling will release on September 23 in North America.
