It’s no secret that Wong is one of the more underrated heroes of the MCU. He’s (the rightful) Sorcerer Supreme and keeps Doctor Strange’s worst impulses in check. (Well, he tries to at least.) Plus, he beat Abomination in combat—which is no slouch. Benedict Wong, like his Doctor Strange co-star Benedict Cumberbatch, is quickly emerging as one of the MCU Phase 4 anchors. Wong stopped by the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about all things Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He couldn’t share too much about the blockbuster Marvel film. But he told Fallon about manifesting the MCU role and even shared some ideas for a Wong-centric Disney+ show.

Wong revealed that he learned about the first Doctor Strange movie while working on The Martian with Chiwetel Ejiofor. The Man Who Fell to Earth actor, who plays Mordo in the films, shared he was about to start working on the Marvel project. Wong said that when he learned there was a character named Wong in the film, he knew it just had to be him. He even joked with Ejiofor about starting a Wong for Wong petition. A few months later, the audition request came through and the rest is movie history. Six movies in, it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role. Petition or no, we’re glad it all worked out in the end.

Wong also chatted with Fallon about the rumblings of a Wong-centric Disney+ spinoff series. The actor, thanking his “Wongterage” legion of fans, suggested a series following Wong during the Blip—teaching his students at Kamar-Taj and his road to Sorcerer Supreme. There is, after all, a whole five years of his journey to dive into.

On the Fade to Black podcast recently, host Amon Warmann also posed the question to Wong. In addition to a concept set during the Blip, the actor also mentioned a “sorcerer and apprentice” idea featuring Wong and Ned. The latter showed off some Sorcerer Supreme-esque powers in Spider-Man: No Way Home and we think that would be such a fun avenue to continue exploring in the MCU.

Given the many, many MCU projects on Disney+ heading our way this year and beyond, it seems only fitting Wong gets his own show. Wanda Maximoff (and Vision) didn’t front her own project until WandaVision and look how that turned out! In the meantime, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now in theaters.
