The Star Wars immersive theme park experience, Galaxy’s Edge, is finally here and Nerdist was there opening day to take in all of the sights and sounds! For this special Nerdist News Edition, follow our own Emma Fyfe as she travels to Batuu, the remote outpost planet where Galaxy’s Edge is set, to see all that the park has to offer, from food to rides to spectacle. One thing is for certain: Galaxy’s Edge is where the fun begins!

“Galaxy’s Edge is essentially built to be your personal Star Wars LARP,” says Emma, who attended the park’s opening media day ceremony. “In the evening, when we all came in here for the big opening night party and it was crawling with members of the Resistance and First Order Stormtroopers and so many other Star Wars fans, that’s when the land really came to life for me and I started to really feel what was promised to us.”

Batuu is home to the Black Spire Outpost, an Outer Rim location that’s home to those who don’t wish to be found. Both the First Order and the Resistance have a presence there, and the events of the park are set after the Battle of Crait from The Last Jedi. The key feature, and what most fans will surely lose their minds getting to see up close, is the full-scale replica of the Millennium Falcon. The ship is also home to Smuggler’s Run, the only major ride currently in operation at Galaxy’s Edge.

After working up a sweat on Smuggler’s Run, you can head on over to Oga’s Cantina, a real-life wretched hive of scum and villainy. Emma also sampled the park’s food, which she says tastes like regular park food with a little “razzle dazzle.”

But the real magic of the park comes from the cast. Every person working there helps bring Galaxy’s Edge and the world of Star Wars to life for attendees. Every character has a backstory and a place in this world, just adding to the overall immersive experience.

Galaxy’s Edge is just getting started, with new rides already in the works. We can’t wait to see how the galaxy far, far away continues to expand in the years to come. Nerdist will be there every step of the way.
