Jean Grey’s terrifying new powers lead her down a deadly path that pits her against friends and enemies alike in the final trailer for Dark Phoenix. But the real problem is how good it feels to be bad.

This summer one of the most popular and iconic comic book stories ever will get a second shot at the big screen— Jean Grey’s transformation into the most dangerous mutant in the world comes to theaters in the next X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix. Now the Disney-owned 20th Century Fox (that’s still so weird to type) has released the final trailer for the film, and it might be the most disturbing look yet at what fans can expect.

The trailer opens with a space mission gone wrong. We see the mysterious cosmic force that turns the already powerful Jean (played by Sophie Turner) into something far more sinister and deadly. As she struggles to keep control over herself, she meets a mysterious new mutant played by a silver-haired Jessica Chastain, who encourages Jean to embrace this transformation. Jean, also dealing with her “own personal demons,” struggles to keep controls, as she says all of these bad things she’s doing feel good. That pits her against her friends who want to save her, led by Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), and fellow mutants who want to stop her before she destroys them all, led by Magneto (Michael Fassbender).

We know it’s just a helmet, but watching Jean Grey rip Magneto’s protective headgear apart so easily feels like the scariest thing we’ve seen in an X-Men movie in 20 years, which is great.

Since this is likely the final trailer in the entire franchise, now that Disney purchased Fox and will likely reboot it and/or fold it into the MCU eventually, we hope this iteration goes out on a high note. Especially since the Dark Phoenix story deserves a lot better than X-Men: The Last Stand gave us.

Yes, sometimes bad is good, but that was a case of bad being bad.

Also starring Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Evan Peters, Dark Phoenix comes to theaters on June 7.
