After a lackluster response to the strange saga of MGM’s bungled Child’s Play reboot, it looks like the original franchise creators Don Mancini and David Kirschner will have the last laugh. Their sequel series has been picked up at SYFY and USA Network. The big news about Chucky’s first foray into television was revealed during the Winter 2020 TCA Press Tour and we couldn’t be more excited. Here’s everything we know about the Chucky TV series.

What’s It About?

While the controversial 2019 film was a complete reboot, the upcoming series is, thankfully, an official part of the long-running Child’s Play franchise. And the press release from SYFY details exactly what to expect from the upcoming installment:

“A vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies—and allies—from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.”

We can’t wait to see how the series extends the lore and story centered around the cast of characters, especially after the shocking ending of the last movie, Cult of Chucky!

We have the very first teaser for Chucky and it is here to play:

As if we weren’t excited enough already, Jennifer Tilly recently shared a pair of images teasing all the horrific fun to expect from the series. Including an adorable reunion with the nightmarish doll and an arguably more terrifying pyramid of baby doll parts. Don Mancini, we’ve really missed you.

Who Is in the Cast?

In addition to the original creative team, a few important franchise staples are returning. Brad Dourif, who voiced the Chucky in the first seven films—Mark Hamill stepped in during the ill-fated MGM film—is back. As is Jennifer Tilley, who has played Tiffany Valentine, Charles Lee Ray’s lover and sometimes evil doll, in several of the films. Also returning to the franchise for the TV series, per /Film, are Alex Vincent, who played Andy Barclay in the first two films, and Christine Elise, who played Kyle in Child’s Play 2. However the series will feature some new faces. Also starring in the series  are Zackary Arthur, Teo Briones, Alyvia Alyn Lind, and Björgvin Arnarson. And their character descriptions, per Deadline, definitely tease the chaos Chucky is looking to create.

Arthur is playing loner teen and Chucky target Jake Webber, who is mourning the death of his mom. Briones, meanwhile, plays Jake’s overachiever cousin Junior Webber, while Lind plays Lexy Taylor, Junior’s girlfriend and Jake’s bully. Arnarson is true crime fiend Devon Lopez, who is keen on investigating the mysterious (Chucky-induced) happenings. Rounding out the cast is Devon Sawa, whose character is currently under wraps.

Who Is the Creative Team?

One of the most thrilling aspects of the series is the creative team behind it. Don Mancini, who created and co-wrote the original film—and wrote all of its direct sequels—is back at the helm as showrunner and executive producer. Original franchise producer David Kirschner is also on-board as executive producer.

When Does It Air?

Chucky will debut on October 12, 2021 on USA Network and SYFY.
