No one has ever seen a real ghost or monster, but we’ve all come across a dead-eyed, creepy doll at some point. We’re not talking about some child’s doll; we’re talking about a tangible, silent nightmare that stares directly into our soul. These are puppets and collectibles that sit on shelves in old houses and look like they might come alive and stab us at any moment. And some seem like they’ll possess our souls when we turn our back. They are downright freaky, which is why they are such a staple of horror movies. Vampires and werewolves aren’t something we really worry about, but grandma’s old marionette will forever haunt us. A creepy doll isn’t the only thing that will scare us in the sequel to The Boy though. The first trailer for Brahms: The Boy II also adds a creepy kid to the franchise.

Brahms: The Boy II is a follow-up to the 2016 horror film The Boy. It starred Lauren Cohan as an American nanny hired to look after a doll. (Clearly if anyone ever tries to hire you to babysit a doll RUN AWAY IMMEDIATELY.) This time it’s Katie Holmes who stars in the film. She plays a mother who tries to find a new, peaceful place to live for her troubled young son. But when he finds a porcelain doll buried in the woods things only get much worse. Either Brahms the doll begins communicating with the boy, or Holmes’ son is turning into a madman. Unless it’s something else in control. Not everything was quite as it seemed in the first film.
In the first movie, Brahms turned out to be a full-grown man living in the walls of his family’s Heelshire estate. The doll wasn’t actually alive. However, based on this trailer the sequel still wants to lean into the supernatural elements originally presented in The Boy. And this time there really might be something not-of-this-world haunting the mansion’s inhabitants. The adult Brahms survived the original, but the young son of The Boy II is clearly troubled before moving. This could end up being similar to how Friday the 13th originally had human killers before the franchise ended up with a supernatural being.
The movie also stars Christopher Convery (Gotham), Owain Yeoman (The Belko Experience), and Ralph Ineson (The Witch). The Boy‘s William Brent Bell once again directed, and Stacey Menear also returned to write the script.
Those two must really love working with a creepy doll. Which likely makes them the only two people in the world who do. The rest of us will continue to run into the other room when we see one. Unless we’re watching them in a horror movie. Then we love them.
