Let the bodies hit the floor. Those words are more than lyrics to a famous raging song. They are the loose premise of an upcoming slasher mystery film with a big comedic twist. Bodies Bodies Bodies—starring Amandla Stenberg, Pete Davidson, Lee Pace, and Maria Bakalova—just hit curious movie lovers with a fun, bloody, and rather weird trailer. And I am kinda here for it.

Before we get into the Bodies Bodies Bodies trailer, let’s get some synopsis out of the way. This A24 film follows a group of friends who get together at a huge mansion during a hurricane. Are they sheltering in place for survival? Hell no. They are partying and decide to play “bodies bodies bodies,” a game where one person is the killer and fake murders others while the survivors try to figure out their identity. What could possibly go wrong? Well, a lot, actually.

In the Bodies Bodies Bodies trailer, we meet the unfortunate crew at this shindig. They are having the time of their lives, wearing glowsticks, making out, and dancing. Sophie (Stenberg) suggests they play the titular game and the crowd gives mixed reactions. Some of them, like David (Davidson) are all in while others aren’t too keen on playing it again. There is a nice punch of comedy, like when one person predictably starts crying. And there’s lots of references to being “toxic,” “gaslighting,” and such to poke fun at how many people overuse those words without knowing what they mean.

But what we really get to see here is how things go awry for real. In the midst of the jokes, there’s some real blood and terror. So someone will indeed die and the Scooby Doo 2022 gang gotta figure it out. Have fun with that, y’all. Bodies Bodies Bodies made its debut at SXSW this year but is set for an August 5 release.
