It’s been almost 30 years since Bill and Ted took us on a Bogus Journey. And while we wish we didn’t have to wait that long for the Wyld Stallyns to play an encore, they are returning to the stage when we have a most excellent need for them. If ever there was a time for those lovable goofballs to help save the universe it’s 2020. But first, they need to write the songs that will unite all of mankind. Yeah, they never actually got around to fulfilling their destinies. However, it might not be the two of them that save reality. The new trailer for Bill & Ted Face the Music shows it might be up to their daughters.

Um… reality as we know it is actually broken. So this film might hit very close to home.

One thing we know it will do is give us an excellent, second new pairing of Bill and Ted. And we’re not talking about the multiple future versions of the band shown in this trailer. We’re talking about their daughters.

Brigette Lundy-Paine (The Glass Castle) stars as Ted’s daughter Billie Logan. Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) plays Bill’s daughter Thea Preston. Yes, Bill and Ted named their daughters Ted and Bill. We already thought they might be the future of the franchise, and now this trailer has us convinced of it.

Other newcomers to the franchise include Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men, Legally Blonde) as The Great Leader. She’s “the most powerful person in the universe” who rules from San Dimas 700 years in the future. Kristen Schaal (Bob’s Burgers, Flight of the Conchords) plays Kelly. She’s a messenger from the future who comes with a dire warning for Bill and Ted. SNL‘s Beck Bennett will play Ted’s little brother Deacon. The movie also stars Jillian Bell (Workaholics, Rough Night) and Kid Cudi (Comedy Bang Bang). Barry‘s Noho Hank, Anthony Carrigan, still unseen in the trailers, will stand against the duo as their “relentless adversary.”

Also returning to the franchise alongside Winter and Reeves is William Sadler as Death. Amy Stoch (Missy) and Hal Landon Jr. (Ted’s dad, Captain Logan) will also join them.

Hopefully, Bill and Ted and Ted and Bill won’t let any of them down.

Bill & Ted Face the Music will be available both On Demand and in theaters August 28.
