Reports of the impending demise of the Arrowverse seem to be greatly exaggerated. The DC Comics world on the CW will continue, with David Ramsey reprising his Arrow role of John Diggle. Ramsey played the part of the ex-military officer and bodyguard to Oliver Queen on all eight seasons of that series. Not to mention several other Arrowverse shows like Superman and Lois. Now, according to Deadline, we’ve learned he’ll return as Diggle for a series called Justice U.

Justice U will focus on younger heroes. Ramsey is set to helm the pilot, should it get picked up. Like all the DC Comics-themed shows on the CW, Greg Berlanti Productions will also produce this one. Here is the official synopsis for Justice U:

After years of fighting alongside masked heroes, Diggle embarks on a new mission to recruit five young metahumans to live undercover as freshmen at a prestigious university. There he will oversee their education and train them to become the heroes of tomorrow.

DC fans might read this and think this sounds a bit like the ’90s comic series Young Justice. But with Marvel Studios reportedly developing the Young Avengers for a project, one can see why they’d go for a name change. Not to mention, there’s also an animated series by the same name. In the Young Justice comics, Justice League veteran Red Tornado oversaw several teenage heroes. Their goal was to one day join the League. We could see a similar premise play out here, only with Diggle in the mentor role.

At the end of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, Diggle found what looks to be a Green Lantern ring. Could this show finally pay off that cool Easter egg? With a Green Lantern series in development on HBO Max, we doubt DC or Warner Bros. would want to double-dip on that mythology so soon. But stranger things have happened.
