Biopics are all the rage these days. We’ve seen Daniel Radcliffe transform into Weird Al Yankovic in WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story. We’ve watched Sebastian Stan and Lily James become Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson in Hulu’s Pam & Tommy series. We’re even witnessing Barbie come to life before our eyes in an upcoming movie. And now, Netflix has revealed the first teaser for its upcoming Marilyn Monroe-centric movie, Blonde. The iconic starlet will grace our screens again. But this time Ana de Armas will be slipping into those famous dresses and pearls. Here’s a look at Blonde‘s full trailer.

Blonde‘s synopsis reveals more about the Marilyn Monroe movie. It notes:

Based on the bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, Blonde blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves. Written and directed by Andrew Dominik, the film boasts a cast led by Ana de Armas and featuring Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams.

As with any biopic, respect is key. We can hope that the filmmakers and actors take the life of the person whose story they are telling very seriously. Star Ana de Armas shares about director Andrew Dominik, “Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start — to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens. He wanted the world to experience what it actually felt like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane. I found that to be the most daring, unapologetic, and feminist take on her story that I had ever seen.”

Dominik further adds about Blonde. “The film’s very much concerned with the relationship with herself and with this other persona, Marilyn, which is both her armor and the thing that is threatening to consume her.”

This Marilyn Monroe movie certainly sounds like it has the potential to be a beautiful film. As Ana de Armas notes, “Our movie is not linear or conventional; it is meant to be a sensorial and emotional experience.” And Blonde‘s teaser certainly evokes those notes.
