Fans Remake ALIEN with Household Items in Just One Minute

Ridley Scott’s sci-fi/horror classic Alien might be over four decades old, but it hasn’t aged a day. The story of the hapless crew of the Nostromo and their encounter with the deadly xenomorph continues to inspire fans. We’ve seen school plays, children’s books, an animated short, and countless face masks based around the film. The alien facehugger got a lot of love as a face mask at the start of the pandemic.

But now, we think we’ve stumbled upon maybe the best Alien fan film yet. Via the folks at Laughing Squid, we’ve discovered a group of Canadian filmmakers by the name of Folks Films, who filmed a one-minute remake of Alien using objects common household objects. You can watch the full Alien in 60 Seconds video right here:

They made this short film for the 2022 “10k One Minute Movie” contest, which occurs in Canada. The rules for this contest are simple: “Just recreate your favorite film in 60 seconds or less. Not a scene – the entire movie!” From there, the Corus Radio panel of judges from across Canada choose the top ten movies, and then gift the $10k grand prize to the winner.

Folks Films

It’s pretty astonishing how Folks Films crew got so many mundane items to stand in for iconography from Alien so convincingly. A baseball glove for a facehugger? Some frozen meat passing as the chestburster alien? A stapler as the xenomorph’s deadly mouth? It somehow all works brilliantly. Maybe the best is the forced perspective on the plastic food storage containers standing in for the cryogenic pods. And their DIY solution for creating the head of the android Ash is actually kind of gross, but pretty darn effective. Luckily, they had an actual cat named Artemis double for Jones, Ripley’s cat in the film. We hope Artemis gets a cut of the prize money.
