In news that is shocking to no one, the Stranger Things universe is expanding on Netflix. We knew that the streaming service wants to keep this horror universe going and that the Duffer Brothers had ideas in the works. In fact, we have a few Stranger Things spinoff ideas of our own that are wild yet plausible. But we weren’t quite expecting Stranger Things to branch off into animated spinoff territory. According to Variety, that’s what we will get sometime in the future.

Of course, there are virtually no details about this spinoff animated series. Who knows when/where it will take place in the Stranger Things universe? However, a statement by the Duffer Brothers gives a few hints. It seems the series will give us a delight similar to those Saturday morning cartoons we grew up watching. A little horror with a bowl of cereal? Sign us up.

“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling,” the creative brothers said in a statement. We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…”

The Duffer brothers will executive produce the Stranger Things animated spinoff series via Upside Down Pictures along with Robles of Flying Bark. Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps are also a part of the production team. In the meantime, there’s still a lot to look forward to in the Stranger Things universe. There’s that London stage show set in Hawkins in 1959 and a mysterious live-action spinoff series, too. Oh, and we still have the fifth and final season of the flagship series coming our way. The Upside Down will have a hold on us for years to come.
