Will ANNIHILATION Stray Too Far From the Book?

The latest trailer for Annihilation looks totally insane, but will the movie stray too far from the novel? We discussed that on today’s Nerdist News Talks Back, along with what we hope to see from Netflix’s She-Ra reboot, and just how different Star Wars could have looked.

Venturing into the unknown with host Jessica Chobot today were Nerdist editors Alicia Lutes and Kyle Anderson, as well as Mothership writer Amy Vorpahl. They began with their reaction to the latest Annihilation trailer, and Alicia shared some insights into her interview with the film’s writer and director, Ex Machina‘s Alex Garland. And since Amy is currently reading the book for our Alpha Book Club, how much does it look like the film is veering from the novel?

(Make sure to tune in live to tonight’s Alpha Book Club on Project Alpha where they’ll finish their breakdown of Annihilation.)

Netflix is also bringing back the classic cartoon She-Ra. How excited are we for this? Is this a better idea than that live-action He-Man movie in development? And between this and Voltron, what other shows from that era would we love to see get rebooted?

Finally, it’s only fitting the same week The Last Jedi comes to theaters we got an incredible fan video based on the original concept art for the franchise by Ralph McQuarrie. Disney XD’s Rebels has used his visuals before, but we’ve never seen something like this primarily live-action film before. What would it have been like to get this version of “The Star Wars?” And what other deleted scenes or ideas from the galaxy far, far away do we wish had been kept in?

Make sure to tune in every weekday at 1:00 p.m. PT when Nerdist News Talks Back airs live on our YouTube and Alpha channels, that way you can be a part of the conversation with us. Although sometimes we do veer from “Nerdist News Talks Back the Novel.”
